Quick Fixes (Try These First)

Start with these low-risk checks before changing account or device settings:

🔄

Restart the App

Force quit ListAIse completely and reopen it. This clears temporary glitches and reinitializes connections.

📶

Check Internet Connection

Many features require internet. Toggle WiFi/cellular off and on, or try switching networks.

🔄

Update to Latest Version

Check App Store/Play Store for updates. Many bugs are fixed in newer versions.

🗑️

Clear App Cache

Go to Settings → Performance → Clear Cache. This removes corrupted temporary data.

Authentication Issues

Can't log in or wrong password error

Symptoms: Login fails, "Invalid credentials" error, or "User not found"

Solutions:

  1. Verify email address: Check for typos in your email
  2. Use "Forgot Password": Tap the reset link on login screen and check your email
  3. Check spam folder: Password reset emails sometimes land in spam
  4. Try OAuth login: Use Google/Apple Sign-In if you originally signed up that way
  5. Account may not exist: You might need to create a new account

Email verification not received

Symptoms: Signed up but can't verify email, no verification email in inbox

Solutions:

  1. Check spam/junk folder: Verification emails often get filtered
  2. Resend verification: Tap "Resend Verification Email" on the verification screen
  3. Wait 5-10 minutes: Sometimes there's a delay in email delivery
  4. Verify correct email: Check you entered the right email during signup
  5. Check email provider: Some providers block automated emails (rare)

Google or Apple Sign-In not working

Symptoms: OAuth popup doesn't appear, authentication fails, "Sign-in cancelled" error

Solutions:

  1. Update device OS: Ensure iOS/Android is up to date
  2. Check Google/Apple account: Make sure you're signed into your device
  3. Retry in the app: Close the sign-in sheet, reopen it, and complete the account prompt without switching apps
  4. Check date and time: Use automatic device date and time so the sign-in token can be validated
  5. Try alternative method: Use email/password login instead

Sync & Data Issues

Lists not synchronizing between devices

Symptoms: Changes on one device don't appear on another, outdated list data

Solutions:

  1. Check internet: Both devices need active connection
  2. Force refresh: Pull down on lists screen to manually sync
  3. Verify same account: Ensure both devices are logged into the same ListAIse account
  4. Check offline queue: Settings → Performance → View Pending Changes
  5. Restart both devices: Force quit ListAIse on both devices and reopen
  6. Re-login: Sign out and sign back in to reset sync connection

Duplicate items after offline sync

Symptoms: Items appear multiple times after going back online

Solutions:

  1. This is expected behavior: If two devices add the same item offline, both sync when online
  2. Delete duplicates manually: Swipe to delete extra copies
  3. Prevent in future: Avoid making identical changes on multiple devices while offline
  4. Use real-time mode: Stay online for automatic conflict prevention

Shared list not showing updates

Symptoms: Collaborator changes don't appear, shared list appears frozen

Solutions:

  1. Check internet: Real-time sync requires active connection
  2. Pull to refresh: Manually refresh the list
  3. Verify still shared: Owner may have removed you (check List Settings)
  4. Check collaborator connection: They may be offline or experiencing issues
  5. Restart app: Force quit and reopen on both devices

AI Feature Issues

Assistant or ingredient substitutions unavailable

Both features require a connection and cloud AI, even when On-Device is selected. Allow the session cloud-consent prompt if you want to continue. The Assistant also requires edit access to the list. If a usage-limit message appears, wait for the indicated reset; Premium raises Assistant limits but does not remove them. For a network error, reconnect and use Retry. See the Assistant troubleshooting steps.

Recipe import failed or returned no ingredients

Symptoms: Recipe URL doesn't import, AI returns zero ingredients, parsing error

Solutions:

  1. Check URL accessibility: Some recipe sites block automated access
  2. Try text import instead: Copy/paste recipe text manually
  3. Verify recipe has ingredients: Some pages are just cooking instructions
  4. Check internet speed: Slow connection may timeout AI processing
  5. Check feature access: Free users can import recipes while they have recipe-import credits. Premium bypasses the free-tier import limit while subscribed.

Voice input not working or microphone error

Symptoms: Microphone won't activate, no transcription appearing, voice feature disabled

Solutions:

  1. Grant microphone permission: Settings → Permissions → Enable Microphone
  2. Check internet: Voice processing requires active connection
  3. Test microphone: Try recording a voice memo to verify hardware works
  4. Check free voice minutes: Free users may have used their voice minutes; Premium bypasses free-tier voice limits
  5. Check feature access: Free users can use voice input while they have voice minutes remaining. Premium bypasses the free-tier voice limit while subscribed.
  6. Close other apps: Another app might be using the microphone

AI categorization put items in the wrong category

Symptoms: Items categorized incorrectly, AI puts milk in produce, etc.

Solutions:

  1. Manually correct: Edit item and change category
  2. Review the result: Correct misheard names or quantities before saving the items
  3. Be specific with names: "2% milk" categorizes better than "milk"
  4. Create custom categories: Add your own categories for specialty items
  5. Report persistent issues: Use Settings → Send Feedback to improve AI

Performance Issues

App is slow or laggy

Symptoms: Slow screen transitions, UI stuttering, delayed responses

Solutions:

  1. Clear app cache: Settings → Performance → Clear Cache
  2. Reduce animations: Settings → Performance → Disable Animations
  3. Archive old lists: Too many lists can slow performance
  4. Update app: Latest version has performance improvements
  5. Restart device: Clear device memory
  6. Check device storage: Low storage slows all apps (iOS/Android settings)

App keeps crashing

Symptoms: App closes unexpectedly, won't stay open, crashes on launch

Solutions:

  1. Update app immediately: Crashes are often fixed in updates
  2. Restart device: Clear device memory and processes
  3. Clear cache: If you can open app briefly, clear cache before it crashes
  4. Free up device storage: Delete unused apps/photos
  5. Reinstall only after sync is verified: Reinstall only after every pending change has synchronized and the same account shows the latest lists on another device. Unsynchronized local changes can be lost when the app is removed.
  6. Check device compatibility: Verify your device meets the current minimum (iOS 16.0+ and Android 8.0+)

ListAIse is draining the battery

Symptoms: Excessive battery usage, phone heats up when using app

Solutions:

  1. Disable animations: Settings → Performance → Turn off animations
  2. Reduce sync frequency: Settings → Performance → Adjust sync settings
  3. Disable location reminders: If not using them (Premium feature)
  4. Close app when not in use: Don't leave it running in background
  5. Update app: Battery optimizations in newer versions
  6. Check background app refresh: Disable in device settings if not needed

Subscription & Premium Issues

Premium features not working after subscription

Symptoms: Paid for Premium but features still locked, ads still showing

Solutions:

  1. Restart app: Premium status may need app restart to activate
  2. Restore purchases: Settings → Premium → Restore Purchases
  3. Check subscription status: Verify payment succeeded in App Store/Play Store
  4. Wait 5-10 minutes: Sometimes there's a delay in activation
  5. Verify same account: Ensure you're logged into the account that purchased Premium
  6. Contact support: If issues persist after 24 hours
